In today’s world of hot rodding, crate engines – whether from GM, Ford or Mopar® – solve a need for the economy-minded enthusiast. We can assist in procurement of the “crate” and then get all the bits to make it fit your car! Occasionally we get asked if we can help somebody take it to the next level – we most certainly can!
The Performance Cellar takes pride in its engine-building capabilities. We have a network of people across North America to help bring your special project to fruition. We have a cylinder head man who is second-to-none, a camshaft grinder who makes horsepower without beating your valve-train to death. Crankshafts built by one of the pioneers in the industry and pistons and rods from two of the most respected people in the racing engine business.
We have special honing practices and incorporate lightweight rings, all to enable you to get the power desired. The capabilities of this program shine in the flagship engine that makes horsepower approaching 2.5 times the cubic inch displacement. Making it that much more remarkable is that the engine architecture is based on an iron cylinder head and a single four-barrel carburetor!
We do not build turbo or nitrous engines; only normally aspirated engines are on our menu. We have built numerous stroked engines, most notably a 454 Ford Windsor that made 720 HP, and a 428-inch version that had 10.4 compression ratio and made 620 HP!
Unfortunately, our process takes longer than most and we make no apologies for that. Current wait time is approximately 12 months.
We have the ability to service and freshen existing engines, as well, and maintain many stock and super stock engines for our customers. We would enjoy talking with you about the needs of your race program.
